PROCUREMENT EXECUTIVE , MINISTRY OF DEFENCE Aeronautical Research Council Reports and Memoranda WEIGHT OPTIMISATION WITH FLUTTER CONSTRAINTS
نویسنده
چکیده
SUMMARY It is argued that the formulation of the method of applying a flutter constraint in weight optimisation which allows for all the methods of avoiding flutter is so complicated that it is best not to try to include a flutter constraint in a general optimisation program with other constraints but to apply it only if the structure obtained from optimisation with the other constraints alone is flutter-prone. In this way much unnecessary and possibly inappropriate calculation can be avoided. A method of weight optimisation with only flutter constraints, based on inverse iteration, which can be used in conjunction with any suitable optimisa-tion procedure which requires the values of the objective function and its first derivatives to be calculable is suggested. Its use in association with more than one procedure is described as is the optimisation of a wing of fairly-high aspect ratio. The question of how detailed a representation of the structure is needed is also discussed.

MINISTRY OF DEFENCE (PROCUREMENT EXECUTIVE) AERONAUTICAL RESEARCH COUNCIL REPORTS AND MEMORANDA Calculation of the Induced Velocity Field on and off the Wing Plane for a Swept Wing with Given Load Distribution
Computer programs have been written to evaluate the integrals of lifting-surface theory for the velocity field of a thin wing with given load distribution. Different programs are used for the downwash at points on the wing, and for any or all three velocity components off the wing. The heart of the programs is an analytic evaluation of the spanwise integral over a short line following the local...

A gust tunnel, which has been under development in the Aeronautical Department of Queen Mary College since 1965, is fully described. Extensive information on the hardware and apparatus associated with the tunnel is followed by an account of its steady and oscillatory flow characteristics. These latter are described for single frequencies as well as at combinations of two frequencies. The genera...
متن کاملReview of the Work of the Aeronautical Research Council 1939 - 1948 HTH
This review divides naturally into sections covering the war and postwar periods. Parts 1 and 3 give surveys of the work which came within the purview of the Aeronautical Research Committee until its reconstitution as a Council in 1945, and of the Council since that date, respectively. Part 2 describes matters concerned with the formation of the Council. (iv) A numerical list of papers publishe...

SUMMARY Temperature measurements, using the SLR method, are presented for the expansion of nitrogen in nozzles attached to a shock-tube. The measurements were made at an area ratio of 8.5 in a two-dimensional nozzle and at an area ratio of 152 in a conical nozzle. Initial conditions were such that at the entrance to the nozzles the temperature ranged between about 2500 K and 5300 K and the pres...
